Lindy Hop is the original 'swing' dance from which all other swing dance forms evolved. Lindy Hop evolved in Harlem, New York in the 1920s and 1930s. It draws heavily from the steps in Charleston. It is normally danced to 1930s music.

By the 1980s the original Lindy Hop style had nearly vanished, until it was revived by dance researchers. This ignited the full-spectrum swing dance revival we now see in colleges and swing dance clubs.

In its simple slower form, Lindy Hop can be fun & playful. But Lindy Hop Swing is best known for its fast, outrageous acrobatic 'aerials'.

There are numerous examples of Lindy Hop in late 1930s and 1940s movies. and modern revival lindy hop draws alot on those extreme movie performances.
