Merengue is a Latin Nightclub Dance. It is early to learn, with simple alternating steps, an exaggerated hip movement, and danced close to your partner. It shares many of its turns with Salsa.

Though the beat of the music is fast, the turns are done slowly - usually taking eight beats to complete.

The dance originates from the Dominican Republic.
